Communication Strategy

Internally, a very elaborate communication chain was set up from the shop floor to those at the top of the process, making sure messages and actions get across appropriately.

Although the use of social media per se was limited, the use of mobile devices for video recording the struggles and sending them out to media was strongly present. The use of cell phones for messaging and contacting one another became common for the first time here, as mobile phones had just begun to be regularly used by the members of the working class. It was the first of its kind, which enabled various actions to be organized much easier than before.

In addition to that, for the movement to spread outside was driven by word of mouth, as small neighboring labor unions began to learn about their successes which spurred them to action.

Created New Spaces

Although the group hasn't physically created new spaces, it has been revolutionary with regards to the broader Indian labor movement. It has spurred local labor movements in the entire Haryana-Rajasthan belt of India.

This movement was primarily led by young workers (20-25 age range), who were first generation laborers and thus, extremely fearless when it came to their actions. Their approach was extremely innovative in that they used a layered leadership structure and mobile devices and social media to their advantage, one of the first of the new age Indian labor movements.

As word spread, this movement served as an important blueprint for others and almost created a platform for local uprisings to occur. These struggles have been ongoing for the last few years, and this new approach has been a vital aspect of them.
