On December 11th, 2017, Inside-Outside Alliance (IOA) sent surveys in to every detainee in the Durham jail for over 30 days asking them questions about their concerns in the Jail and what they’d like to see IOA do about it.
Some responses to the survey were published on their website and included in the next issue of their newsletter, Feedback #37, which was sent into the jail, so that inmates could read each other's responses. Here are some of the responses published on IOA's website:

The purposes of this action were:
1) t0 gain a better understanding of the detainees' concerns in the Jail;
2) to learn what they’d like to see IOA do in response to these concerns;
3) to increase the involvement of detainees in IOA's decision-making processes.
