On November 26th, 2016, a demonstration was held in Rome by the members of Non Una Di Meno. It fell purposefully on the day after the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Several groups joined them, such as Io Decido (I decide), a pro-choice group, “D.i.Re.” Donne in Rete (Women’s Network), a network of organizations against gender violence across Italy. Both the #MeToo movement and Non Una Di Meno are fighting to eliminate gender violence and sexual assault. Though #MeToo started in the U.S., it quickly became international and has been adopted by many countries. These two groups work through different tactics to create awareness of the misogyny that is embedded in both Italian and American culture. Asia Argento is an Italian actress, singer, model, activist and director who participated in the #MeToo movement, and came out saying that she had been harassed by Harvey Weinstein. Already involved with Non Una Di Meno, Asia Argento was instrumental in tying the two groups together, as a high profile actress garners more attention for each respective group.
The International Feminism movement is an umbrella movement for all feminists movements that take place around the world. The movement, as a whole, allows sub-feminist movements to make connections and find similarities in campaigns/resources to one another. Additionally, this movement allows women's voices to be heard across the world and raises important women's issues from different societies and cultures.
