About

Each year on June 20th is an internationally celebrated World Refugee Day. This event was created by the United Nations General Assembly to raise awareness of the great need refugees have worldwide. It is hoped that on this day individuals and nations around the world will remember the status of millions of refugees, asylum seekers and forced migrants who were forced to flee from their homes, leaving behind everything they know. Also, it is important to remember how these individuals have established a new future for themselves and were able to contribute to society after this suffering. The hope is to demonstrate the impact a welcoming environment to a refugee family has, as they attempt to piece back together and to encourage nations and communities alike to support refugees rather than alienate them.

Goals
  • Raise awareness to nation-state on the importance of excepting refugees at their borders, and demonstrate how these individuals are beneficial to society. Specifically call on governments to guarantee each child gets an education, families have an opportunity to work or learn new skills and contribute to the community.
  • Raise awareness to communities and individuals of the impact creating a welcoming environment can make to a refugee family. Supporting families with basic community needs like shelter, clothing and food, as well as education resources etc., can change the projection of a family’s future.
