Genealogy

Before WWF in 1948, Fairfield Osborn founded the Conservation Foundation with the purpose of protecting Earth's natural resources. Many leading scientists sat on the advisory council, including Aldo Leopold and Charles Sutherland Elton. 

Prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld founded the World Wildlife Fund on April 29, 1961 (57 years ago) and established its financial endowment in 1970. 

The Conservation Foundation affiliated in 1985 and officially merged with WWF in 1990. 

In 1986, World Wildlife Fund changed its name to World Wide Fund for Nature, although the organization retains its original name in America and Canada.

Structure

President and CEO: Carter Roberts works to unite governments, communities, businesses, and policy programs to save ecosystems and lead WWF to achieve its goals. 

WWF's management includes a Senior Management Team, Board of Directors, and Honorary Directors.

A National Council, established in 1984, advises the Board. Leaders across the country in the scientific, business, political, and philanthropic fields make up the Council.

Other than these leaders of WWF, members across the world donate, adopt animals, and/or work on conservation projects. WWF also depends on partnerships and scientific experts to greater propel their ambitions.
