Food & Water Watch created a documentary about the situation of wastewater use for irrigation and, so far, it has 53,000 views on Facebook and around 11,000 on YouTube. Thousands of people have vowed to avoid buying produce grown with the oil water until the practice is banned. Consumers are calling companies named in the videos and petition. They have collected around half a million signatures for the petition. Grimmway Carrots, a company named in the documentary, is now threatening a lawsuit against Food & Water Watch. Wenonah Hauter called on Grimmway Carrots to make a public statement with scientific evidence proving that the water used for their carrots is never mixed with oilfield wastewater. Additionally, she asked the company to take a public stance against the practice and call on the local water district and California state officials to put an end to it. No evidence or statements was provided.
